植樹(shù)節(jié)是按照法律規(guī)定宣傳保護(hù)樹(shù)木，并組織動(dòng)員群眾積極參加以植樹(shù)造林為活動(dòng)內(nèi)容的節(jié)日。按時(shí)間長(zhǎng)短可分為植樹(shù)日、植樹(shù)周和植樹(shù)月，共稱為國(guó)際植樹(shù)節(jié)。提倡通過(guò)這種活動(dòng)，激發(fā)人們愛(ài)林造林的熱情、意識(shí)到環(huán)保的重要性。

中國(guó)的植樹(shù)節(jié)由凌道揚(yáng)和韓安、裴義理等林學(xué)家于1915年倡議設(shè)立，最初將時(shí)間確定在每年清明節(jié)。1928年，國(guó)民政府為紀(jì)念孫中山逝世三周年，將植樹(shù)節(jié)改為3月12日。新中國(guó)成立后的1979年，在鄧小平提議下，第五屆全國(guó)人大常委會(huì)第六次會(huì)議決定將每年的3月12日定為植樹(shù)節(jié)。
